This study aims to develop a science teaching material (IPA) based on the local wisdom of remote communities in West Kalimantan, particularly the Bangka’ tradition, as a response to learning challenges related to flood disasters. The main issue identified is the lack of integration of local values in science education and the limited availability of contextual learning materials for students. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The subjects involved were the residents of Nanga Bunut Village and fifth-grade students of SDS Islamiyah Pontianak. The results indicate that the developed teaching material received a “very high” validation rating from experts, with an average score of 0.86. Classroom implementation showed improved student understanding of flood disaster concepts and a positive attitude toward local wisdom. However, challenges included time limitations and cultural differences, which made some students less familiar with the Bangka’ burial tradition. In conclusion, science teaching materials based on local wisdom can enrich students’ understanding of both science and culture while strengthening the relevance of learning to local contexts. However, adjustments are needed for broader application in more diverse educational environments.
